Private Sports Performance and College Scholarships
/I’m training Tyler Ramirez and Ethan Huerta. Tyler is a college wrestler I’ve been training since he was a freshman in high school. Ethan is a high school wrestler (junior) who has been training with me since he was a freshman.
Me: Ty, of all of the high school state tournaments you’ve wrestled in, how many athletes were NOT club wrestlers?
The words hardly leave my mouth…
Ty: None.
Ethan standing behind him violently shaking his head East and West in dramatic fashion.
Me: How can you be sure?
Ty: Because we see all of the state tournament wrestlers on the club circuit.
They tell me how non-club wrestlers are weeded out during districts and those who slip through are ousted early in regionals.
Club sports are not cheap. Parents who have the means to put their kids in club sports also find ways to fit private Sports Performance training into the budget.
If club sport athletes who are investing in Sports Performance are the ones going to state tournaments, I’m going out on a limb here to say they are also the ones getting the best looks from college scouts. Maybe I’m wrong...doubtful.
I've scoured college tuition data. The numbers are all over the place. I dialed it into this...over the course of four years, public universities range between $120,000-$150,000. Private universities can easily push over $200,000.
Club sports and Sports Performance training are not a guaranteed path to a scholarship, but if the combination of the two can put you in a position where you are competing with the best athletes in the state and in front of your favorite university options, it’s a no brainer. The return on this investment has huge potential.
This work is not cheap. The value is through the roof. Anything of great value comes with a price tag. However, the investment is a fraction of overall tuition costs.
Ethan took 1st in state for Greco last season and 6th in Folkstyle. You already know what next season will look like. His parents invest in him. He takes that investment serious. Never misses a session. It’s paying huge dividends. Ty’s parents invest in him. He never misses sessions. His college is paid for.
We only move in one direction. It’s never easy, but without club sports, private training, and incredible discipline, you’re fighting an uphill battle. Club sports & Sports Performance training create better athletes. No debate.
This could be the doorway leading to a free education.
