At some point, you just have to start living...
/I’ve worked with a lot of coaches over the years. Coaches to help me be a better coach, seminars, workshops, certification courses, spiritual coaches, mental coaches, business coaches, I’ve paid other coaches to train me so I could get an outside set of eyes on my own movement, etc.
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received came from the person closest to me, the person sitting right next to me, my wife.
Maybe this advice will do you some good as well.
“All of the self work, the healing work, the desire to be better, etc, it’s all great...but at some point, you just have to start living.”
Simple. Incredibly simple, yet equally as powerful.
That’s easy for a person to say though, right? Maybe. Maybe it’s easy to say for the person who’s actually living it...because they’re actually living it. Let these folks be our examples, our guides.
I watch her walk through life. She loves her career, her family, friends, beaches, camping, sunrises, sunsets, good coffee, good food, etc. You know, all of the things we all love.
The difference between her and most people I know, myself included, is how she reacts when problems surface. She looks through an incredibly different lense than most of us.
When a problem surfaces, she puts her head down and immediately goes to work, whereas many of us waste time sulking in the fact that there is a problem. I can’t count the times she’s looked at me and said “Perspective bro. Your feelings about the problem don’t change the fact that there is a problem.”
Solutions solve problems, not feelings.
I’ve watched her deal with superficial problems like spilled coffee to work related problems to deeper problems like losing a loved one to cutting ties with toxic relationships to the trauma of giving birth to the beautiful baby girl we have in our lives. Sure, she feels. I can see that in her, but she gets the work done and moves on. She holds on to nothing...she lives.
She was born with that thing the rest of us are searching hard for. That thing the rest of us are paying incredible energy for. Doing life with her is showing me more and more that it’s as simple as flipping a light switch on and off.
No matter what we’re faced with today, let us not forget to live. Let us flip that light switch, get the work done, and move on.
And above all else...let us smile as big as Tiffany.
I love you, Pretty Girl.
